How someone legally qualified got involved in agriculture....

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

Yes, that's me. I read law back in a long time ago (I am vain I am not going to share my age...) I did it in Leeds Beckett University in Leeds, United Kingdom. I will tell that story in another blog. I came back and one day, a few years later, in my second job I joined Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS). What is BERNAS? It's Malaysia's premier rice producer and distributor. It was formerly known as Lembaga Padi dan Beras Negara (LPN) or the National Paddy and Rice Board.

This is a photo of a paddy field. When I was there I spent time at paddy fields, rice complexes all the time. I left agriculture for a while when in 2009 I joined Emery Oleochemicals Group. It was a multi-national company that produces oleochemical products. What's oleochemicals? Oleochemicals are derived from natural sources including plant and animal fats.

The formation of basic oleochemical substances like fatty acids is by various chemical and enzymatic reactions. What are natural sources? Palm oil, soybean oil, animal oil and fats. And over 7 years later I joined the East Coast Economic Region Development Council where one of my responsibilities was agribusiness. So strange as it seems I have been in various forms of agriculture business activities for over 20 years. So, once in a while I will be talking about agriculture, I believe in developing sustainable agriculture businesses specially to produce food products.

In my next blog I will write about my thoughts about agrifood production specifically in Malaysia. See you.
